CBS Shines with Earnings, Revenue Increases in Q3

CBS shipped what the Eye described as the company’s best-ever third quarter results Wed, powered by higher content licensing and distribution revenues.

CBS’ numbers came in right at Wall Street’s expectations of earnings associated with 76 cents per share, upward 19% from the year-ago quarter. Revenue for the quarter hit $3. six billion, up 11% from the year-ago frame, while net earnings from continuing operations grew 12% in order to $469 million.

The particular wind in CBS’ sails came from higher retransmission and affiliate compensation fees as well as syndication coin collected from “NCIS: Los Angeles” plus “The Good Wife. ”

“We continue to launch new hits—from ‘Under the Dome’ and ‘Ray Donovan’ this summer to the top three brand new comedies on television this fall, ” CBS prexy-CEO Leslie Moonves mentioned. “Through our studio, we have an ownership interest in most of these shows, which means that their success not only boosts the base business, but also our newer revenue streams as well, including quite strong growth in retransmission consent charges, reverse compensation, international sales and all the opportunities afforded to all of us by exploding advances in technologies. Plus, we are working toward a brand new advertising model in which we receive money for the significant, additional viewing that is increasingly taking place after a show very first airs. ”
