Wizard and performer Penn Jillette provides launched a $999, 956 crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for their feature-length thriller “Director’s Cut. ”
Jillette, who wrote and produced, will star as an obsessed psycho-fan stalking a young actress. Jillette (pictured above with Teller) has released the 45-day campaign to fund “Director’s Cut” on Donald Trump’s website FundAnything. com. He has submitted a video on the site calling on fans to “help me realize my dream of being the creepiest bad guy you’ve ever seen. ”
“Director’s Cut” will be directed simply by Adam Rifkin, whose credits consist of “Look, ” “The Dark Backward” and “Reality Show. ” Makers are Jillette, Rifkin and Jillette’s manager Peter Golden.
“This isn’t going to be ‘Avatar, ’” Jillette told Variety. “What we’re doing is democratizing the particular filmmaking business a little bit as the price of filmmaking equipment comes down. It’s the continuation of what got started on ‘The Blair Witch Project. ’”
The female lead has not yet been cast. Jillette admits that he was enough of a enthusiast of Rifkin’s work that he cold-called the director and was able to convince him to join the project within the same evening,
Jillette has already been expanding his role outside of performing as an illusionist. Penn & Teller united for the documentary “Tim’s Vermeer, ” which debuted earlier month at the Toronto Film Celebration as an investigation into the methods of Dutch Master Johannes Vermeer.
Jillette also directed and was seen in the 2005 comedy “The Aristocrats, ” which explored 100 different comedians telling the same dirty joke.
“So I think I really could get funding if I were doing another movie about a painter or even about stand-up comedy, I could possibly get the funding for it, ” this individual added. “There are some things inside my heart that are hard to pitch to ‘Hollywood suits’ and I’d rather pitch directly to the people who will find my movie. ”
In this case, Jillette is promising that for $20 he will include the name of a contributor to his advertising campaign in the film’s end credits; $150 for a red-carpet advance screening; as well as for $10, 000, a contributor is going to be listed as an executive producer.
Jillette noted that a latest FundAnything campaign for Adam Carolla’s stand-up comedy film “Road Hard” film brought in $1. 36 million. Carolla and Jilletter were both contestants on the fifth season of Trump’s “Celebrity Apprentice. ”
